Our lead judges are Pete Brown and Susanna Forbes.

Pete Brown is thrice winner of the British Guild of Beer Writers Beer Writer of the Year and current holder of the title. He has written books on world cider and the apple orchard and judged in a number of national competitions. The founder of DrinkBritain.com, the drinks tourism website, she writes wherever possible for CAMRA’s BEER magazine, is a regular beer and cider judge, and has recently decamped to Herefordshire to set up Little Pomona, a boutique cidery, with her husband James. Steve Lamond is competition organiser and head steward. As Beoir's Cider Officer he decided it is high time Irish cider gets the recognition it deserves and believes and national competition is a good starting point. He began his cider education early in his home county of Somerset, working on cider bars at CAMRA festivals and writes at www.beersiveknown.com. Steve tweets @beersiveknown

Other judges and stewards will be invited from Beoir, the Irish National Homebrew Club and drinks industry. All judges will have experience of judging cider and the majority BJCP certified. No current commercial cider producers on the island of Ireland will be permitted to act as judges to prevent any accusations of impropriety.

 

On the Day

We aim to kick things off at 10AM when judging teams will be assigned to tables and competition briefing delivered. Intend to begin judging proper at 10:30 with a break for lunch at 1pm. If any judges are late arriving we may begin judging some categories to prevent delay to best in show later on.

Best in show will immediately follow completion of category judging and will comprise of the best by category as decided by judges responsible for that category and l comprise the two lead judges

 

Travel info: Judges/ stewards can travel by bus to Dungannon or train to Portadown, we will try to arrange onward transport to judging venue if required. We hope to be able to reimburse travel costs for those judges within Ireland.
