Stranded A/C, Captcha & Chrome 13 years 3 months ago #1

Hi guys,
My original ICB Forum account seems to be 'stranded' or orphaned, or whatever term you want to use - I was originally registered as 'cianclarke'.
I tried:
-My original password
-Recovering my password
Neither seemed to work, and of course after X attempts I have to also add my interpretation of the captcha, which is genuinely impossible if you don't mind me saying!

In addition, in Chrome (on OSX, but I'm guessing probably reproducible on any Webkit browser) the input field for password, and likewise for the captcha won't take focus, I had to switch to firefox..

Lastly, when I created this new account my password was sent in the plaintext email.. I'm guessing this is a configurable feature, might be nice to turn it off?

Just my .50c, great job on the site by the way - loving beoir.org, the redesign, and the host of information available.

Hi Cian,

Looking at the backend, your original account is there and enabled. There were some issues with the passwords getting out of synch between the forum and main site during the migration, but the "forgotten password" link solved those.

Can you describe what happened if the change password link didn't work for you, as we haven't had this complaint before. Are you sure you used the email address you originally signed up to ICB on? Just in case, as a reminder, it's your personal domain mail. If you like, I can reset your password and mail you so you can try changing it again.

We'll take your view on the CAPTCHA on board.

Genuinely surprised at the password being sent. It's possible that the modules we now use to register are doing this, but I see no setting to turn it off. I'll definitely be following that up!

Bear in mind this is not a complete self-developed site, as it's built using Joomla! components from all sorts of developers, so individual components may have different support levels for browsers. Not ideal, as we might not have full control over certain aspects, but if there are issues with Chrome (and this is the first report of one), we'll have to pass it on to the guys who developed the components in question.

Let me know how it goes, or what you'd like us to do with your original account.

Don't worry Bar, more than familiar with the woes of developing with a whole bunch of Joomla components - it's my bread and butter

I'm really impressed with what you've done with the frontent though, usually I'll see a Joomla site a mile off - you've managed to hide it with the nice UI, I didn't even spot..!

As you've probably gathered - when the CAPTHA 'too many password tries' thing expired, I managed to get my account back with recovery! Maybe I was just getting the CAPTCHA wrong every time, hehe.. Thanks for the reply
