I think they did, but anyway they say only the busiest 0.35% of sites using their maps will be affected. I think we're safe enough for now!

I was thinking of something along the lines of OpenSpace from the OSGB.

Anyway maybe we should consider a move to OSM or at least have it as a selectable option.

Just panning around OSM there now. A lot of metadata missing. For example, my home town (Carrick-on-Shannon) has no street names at all. Longford and Roscommon not great either. Other parts of it are very good tho.

The cynic in me says that this was the plan all along.
You get nothing for nothing.
I live in Ennis, Co. Clare, which was a mere crossroads on OSM. I has some time for a while so took to my car with my GPS and plotted all of Ennis.
If a town is missing and you have the time and inclination, you can add it yourself.
OSM will always be free, the only thing its as good as the mapper.
