Jack Doyle's Brewery is closed (via Dec Nixon on Twitter). I make that the first post-2005 Irish microbrewery to go out of business. That the beer was almost unobtainable might have something to do with that. It certainly doesn't seem to have been a quality issue, from what I've tasted.

I think Kerry, Radik Ale and Blackstairs are challenging the leading position? Or are you counting just the ones with their own premises?

I'm just counting the breweries.

Did they ever really get going? Their Facebook page has a 2 year gap in posts with the last one being about a new mash tun last year.

Was it them that converted a swimming pool into a brewery?

I was fairly certain Jack Doyle's had closed as I hadn't seen their beer or any online presence for a while.

It's a pity because the site was impressive and they had big plans to make it a destination for beer tourism.

Ah that's a shame. Had his stuff recently in movell, and it was a hit with m friends too

I think he only had a 200l system. Maybe he didn't see money in it to expanded

Aww, really? That sucks.

Looks like it. Dec was also asking if Bo Bristle was still going. They seem to be off the shelves in M&S, which was my usual proof of their existence.

I had Bo Bristle locally in the midlands before I fully moved back to Dublin in September but it could have been older stock in the restaurant. That was in August.

The question was recently asked on the Midlands beer group and Liam Tutty said they are still going, just under the radar. Pretty much keeping it local. Probably waiting another Superstar Brewer like Dave to come along and kick them up the arse.

Yeah, nothing on social media for about a year, though they were nver big users of any social media platform.

Haven't seen the beer in a while.

That said, this is the last untapped checkin from a few weeks ago.
He does say "Retro check-in" though so likely he had it at some point in the past.

Last I spoke to him, about a year ago, he said he was getting out of the beer business so I'd say 12th Abbey is gone indefinitely, though it was never a brewery.
