Kilkenny is a very large site in a great location in the middle of the city centre that runs along the river. It's also got the ruins of a lovely old abbey in it. I'm sure it's worth a lot. It's sad for Kilkenny as there are few jobs of that type in the town. Also the brewery provides lots of contract type employment for maintenance companies in the town.
I wonder if they'll manage to get to the 300 years of brewing at Kilkenny before it closes.
Was there anything about what will happen to the brewery in Waterford? The plant was rennovated recently.
I'd say Guinness extract will still be made in James's Gate so the marketing will be the same...

Blimey, they're building the brewery in Leixlip. I'd have thought, from a marketing point of view, the whole Guinness-started-in-Leixlip angle would be harder to push than the "Brewed in Dublin" strapline. But then they only have to make a token amount in James's Gate to keep that slogan as well.

Finding a synonym for "breweries" is really hard.
BBC News wrote:The closure of these distilleries will see a cut of almost half the number of Diageo's brewing staff of 430 in the Irish Republic

Years after the plan to move out of James's Gate was shelved and a new brewery built there instead, Diageo are finally looking at redeveloping all the redundant land and buildings they have. Report in the Irish Times here and their own shiny corporate video here.
