Populating the Beoir Directory

The directory needs your help in getting more entries.

Before we had a searchable directory, we had a list. To get a good start, why not select a pub from that list that's near you and gather some info about it to make a proper entry for it in the Directory.

The information needed is fairly simple:

  • Name of premises *
  • Address *
  • County * (in addition to the address, to help with filtering)
  • Website
  • Email
  • Phone (including country dial code to help international visitors)
  • Description (please keep it as factual as possible)
  • Opening Hours
  • Beers Available
  • Transport Links
  • Amenities (Cask ale, Food, Outdoor area, Table service, WiFi)
  • Latitude and Longitude (though you can also search for an address and click a point on a map)
  • Add a Picture (no larger than 300KB)
  • Set the category or categories it belongs to (one or more of Brewery, Brewpub, Pub/Bar or Restaurant)

When describing the place, try to be factual (please, no "best pub ever!!" descriptions), and remember that your entry will help guide people to the places that serve Irish craft beer.

What happened to the Tramco brewery? I assume it is still physically there but its not in the directory?

Depopulating the Beoir Directory:

Bentley's Oyster Bar has gone (Is now the Cliff Town House or somesuch). Can't say I'll miss the place- the two meals I had there ranked as the worst (and possibly the most expensive) I've had in Dublin. It seemed that you'd only get a good meal if Corrigan was in the kitchen. Unfortunately that was not very often.

Ale Adventurer available to take up the "populating the Beoir directory" request in the Dublin 10, 20 and 22 areas. Any takers? Getting thirsty thinking about it!

Hey,

New recruit here... I'm based in Galway city and would be very glad to provide information on the main places of local interest (Salt House, Bierhaus, Oslo Bar)... if this would be of use?

Is it possible to "edit" entries on the Beoir Directory (apart from editing the entries already submitted by a user)? It could do with a bit of tweaking here and there (i.e. only Ór listed as a beer from Trouble Brewing). I might be willing to volunteer for this (as I know the site admins can't do everything!).

Good question. Normally, you can edit the entries you submit, so you become the caretaker of that entry, for example, but others cannot. Admins can edit all entries, of course. If you want to volunteer for maintenance, I can see if you can be made a caretaker (or guardian? :D) or open it to all members for editing.

Thanks Barry! I'm not sure I want the "caretaker" moniker! Overlord sounds better!! Whatever I can do to help out works for me.

Well, unfortunately the settings only allow users to edit their own entries. I'll have to see if there is a workaround.

How long does a new entry on the Beoir Directory remain signalled as "new"?

Looks like it's about two weeks. Currently The Village (added 21/1) isn't "New" but The Tap Room (25/1) is.

Le Bon Crubeen now has Helvick Gold and Copper Coast in bottles, not sure if it's listed on their menu but as we were sitting at the bar we could see them in the fridges.

Had two delicious bottles of Helvick Gold with my dinner there last night.

One of the features I looking into adding to the App is to allow users with a certain privilege level the ability to add (rather than change) new venues.
