Hops rhizomes sprouted

The place to discuss ingredients, whether about their properties, growing or creating your own.

I've got two hop rhizomes in pots which I'm about to plant out. They both have three sprouted bines on them. I've read somewhere that the first growth should be cut and that secondary growth would then be much stronger. One of the bines on my cascade is now a foot long. Does anyone have any advice on this please? Should I just stick them in the ground and let them off?

Professional growers pinch off the first sprout. It encourages the slower growing ones to fatten up a bit.

Remember the aim isn't to grow the tallest plant you can, but rather the fullest.
