Beoir Full Member Benefits Update

Meetings and events in the north-east region.

Moderators: andrew, Stephanos

Postby Saruman » Tue Sep 17, 2013 9:56 am

Since I was elected, I have been going on about getting real membership benefits in place. I'm sure most will have noticed the Membership menu with the Membership Benefits page.

Last night, I updated that with the first new benefit. I encourage people to keep an eye on the page as it will be updated over the coming weeks. I will be updating this thread as needed too.

The latest benefit is as follows. 10% off Irish Craft Beer from drinkstore. You can either claim this in store with your membership card or online. Note that online is an opt in scheme. Tell them you are a Beoir member and include your username. You can also email info@drinkstore.ie with your order number and info or perhaps call them to be sure.

You may wonder why it's only Irish beers? The obvious answer is that our remit is to raise awareness of Irish craft breweries so it makes sense to encourage people to buy it. As more Irish breweries come on stream and start bottling, that 10% will grow in value.

As I said in the newsletter that went out, my intention is to make it crazy not to be full Beoir members. Almost as if costing people money not to be members

Great idea, and fair play to drinkstore for coming on board.
I'll be using this on Saturday!

Does it also apply to Cider?

Typically when I order from drinkstore I order beers NOT common in Ireland or hard to come by. I think it's a pity this was limited as having a well rounded (and full bodied) exposure to all styles and countries only benefits members who can apply said knowledge to irish craft, or indeed, their own craft brews.

I reckon the margin is lower on imports. They tend to be a lot more expensive so to keep them affordable, the margin might be smaller.
Anyway, that was the arrangement I made with drinkstore. You will have to agree that it's better than nothing
I too would buy more non Irish beer from there to write about.

It makes a lot of sense for it to be a discount on Irish only- We are supposed to be supporting Irish craft breweries.

They have a good selection of the irish stuff - got a bottle of Leann Follain that i'm keeping by for Christmas - one of the whiskey aged ones.

Maybe we could get sweetman to do growler fills for Beoir members for a tenner??

One of the few good ones I occasionally come up with.
That would be an excellent membership perk!
