reccomendations for session pale ails in 500ml bottles/cans?
hi,
Any recommendations for hoppy pale ales in 500ml bottles/cans suitable for a session?
What I'm thinking of is beers like Founders All Day IPA, Yellow Belly Citra, White Hag's Little Fawn, Dead Pony Club ... and that sort of thing.
All of these beers come in 330ml bottles or cans.
You'd think for relatively low alcohol beers like this you'd get them in the larger size?
I know O'hara's pale is in a 500 ml bottle and Blacks of Kinsale do similar stuff, but was wondering if other hoppy stuff has escaped me?
What I'd like:
size - 500ml
ABV - on or below 5%
flavour - Lots of American hops
Any thoughts?
Tim

Lough Gill's cans are 440ml, so a little bit closer to your target. The Beer Club have listed Heinoweiser as 500ml but I think that's an error. https://www.thebeerclub.ie/collections/ ... ll-brewery
BrewDog sell Punk in 500ml cans but I've never actually seen one. It's a bit higher than sessionable too as well I suppose. Dead Pony isn't done in 500ml anyway.
It probably is a missed opportunity though as there's plenty of breweries doing 500ml bottles, why not cans as well?

hi,
Will check out the Lough Gill beers when I come across them.
Yes, I know Punk is in 500 ml cans. Certainly tempting, though a nudge above the 5% cut off!
The Magic Rock and Cloudwater I've come across so far are above 5% ... Though they are certainly nice!
As regards why 500ml as opposed of 330 ml, two reasons:
1. I just like being able to drink a beer out of a pint glass which is almost full ...
2. Its probably better value for money. I'll drink 2 500 ml cans in stead of 3 330 ml cans.

I'd be the same on both counts. Often the 330mls aren't much cheaper than the 500mls at all either.

hi,
Is Crafty Divill's beer widely available in Dublin off licenses?
Need to check out the James Brown one also.
Bucket and Spade is really a rye ale. Very nice, but I'm looking for that American hoppyness aspect!
I do remember Boom from a good while back. I hadn't seen it around for ages so wondered if Stone Barrel were still going.

Dunno. SuperValu on Sundrive Road stocks it so I'd guess other SuperValus do too.tim.culhane wrote:Is Crafty Divill's beer widely available in Dublin off licenses?
Yep, just opened a new brewery in Bluebell, operated jointly with Third Circle. I see Boom in Aldi a lot.tim.culhane wrote:I hadn't seen it around for ages so wondered if Stone Barrel were still going.

It's not MEGA hoppy but how about a lovely, consistent, sessionable, 500 ml pale ale for €2.19 a bottle?
Williams Bros Perfect Storm in Aldi...
An absolute godsend of a beer.

hi again,
One beer which I think fits this description, but which I haven't noticed in a long while is Bo Bristle.
Anybody know if they are still available?
Looking at their twitter feed, looks like that has been very quiet recently.

Yep, still around. I think Dave Guilfoyle did their Twitter but then moved jobs to Trouble.

Their IPA is a great beer indeed, criminally underrated for some bizarre reason.
It's in Aldi for 2.69 a pop, unfortunately all the ones in my local are stale. Hopefully they get fresh ones in again.

McGargles Little Bangin' IPA (3.8%) 500mls in the 4 for €10 at Tesco.
No silly cartoon labels, either.

Was in Donegal Brewing yesterday and I see their session IPA is now available in 500ml bottles. It tasted really good on tap...
