Recommendation for craft beer pub in Cork city 7 years 10 months ago #1

hi all,

Visiting Cork city next weekend and was looking for good recommendations for craft beer pubs.

We'd be looking for aplace which had good food and was *relatively* quiet for a Saturday night. By that I mean a place you can have a conversation in and which does not play loud music.

Of course, a wide variety of craft beer on tap goes without saying.

Looking forward to all suggestions.

Bierhaus, Franciscan Well and Rising Sons. The latter can get very bus though, but it's well worth a visit.

Beoir members get pints of cask beer for €3 in the Bierhaus as well (bring your Beoir card). They don't serve food but they do deals for pizza from the place next door.

I'm biased, speaking as a regular, but The Bierhaus on Pope's Quay ticks all the boxes.

While it will be busy on a Friday/Saturday, it's never so loud that you can't have a chat in there.

They added more taps to the bar so I think there's over 20 draught lines (16 of which are rotating guest taps) now plus a large range of bottles. They post the tap changes on Twitter.

I'm not sure if Irish Goat has been in the BH recently but the pizza place has changed owners. It used to be Uncle Pete's which was tasty but they've moved to Rory Gallagher Place (not far from the BH). There's a takeaway called Chillie's or something there now. I haven't eaten there but it doesn't look too appetising.

The lads are pretty fair in The Bierhaus - you can grab food from The English Market or several other places that serve up tasty offerings and eat it in the bar.

As mentioned previously - Beoir members get €1.20 off the cask on offer when you show them your card. Usually makes it around €3 a pint unless the beer is 9% or something in which case it would be a little more expensive.

The Rising Sons is alright for one pint and a pizza but I'm not a big fan of the place. A bit soulless. I am however a fan of other bars owned by the esteemed Mr. McCabe. Places like The Mutton Lane Inn and Sin É where you can drink Rising Son's beer in very comfortable surroundings.

If you need any more info, just ask.

It wasn't open at all when we were there a few weeks ago.

Thanks all for the responses.

Seems the Bierhaus leads the way. Pity no food available on site ...

Out of interest Dave-o, any thoughts on Elbow Lane and the Cotton Ball. Not sure how central they are, particularly the Cotton Ball.

Is Franciscan Well worth visiting or do they concentrate mainly on their own beers?

Any other suggestions welcome.
