Doesn't make much sense.

My mate Dave* down the pub told me this evening the vintners said to Heineken "them or us" that Irish publicans collectively sell a lot more H than WS in the UK do. May or may not be true.

* may or may not be called Dave

Heineken hasn't taken off in the UK just yet but it's creeping into more and more places. Having it for sale in spoons is a good start. The massive amount of Heineken spend on advertising will start to pay off in the UK soon enough. They might not sell a lot at the minute but if Heineken UK can get more of a foothold there Heineken Ireland would pale in comparison.

I would have though then the Irish market could suffer to keep a foothold in the UK and make that advertising pay off

Definitely, but if you read the BBC article below it sounds like Heineken UK had no input into the matter, and are probably seething that their hardwork is being thrown away by the lads in Cork.

I thought Heineken had changed its name to European Professional Rugby Champions anyway? Bit of a mouthful ordering it at the bar.

I reckon it will be resolved fairly quickly. Considering Strongbow, John Smiths and Fosters will also all be removed from all the UK Spoons as well. Spoons want the big bosses in Holland to override Heineken Ireland and give them a big bollocking.

Anyway, no loss. As they won't stock Guinness/Murphy's/Beamish for a stout - maybe Shandon Stout on nitro or Bru Dubh
